Three new Atlassian features to enhance teamwork and development processes

Enhance customer support, break down team silos, and streamline development processes! Introducing three key Atlassian innovations and what they mean for your business.

The Atlassian System of Work is a philosophy on how technology-driven organizations should operate to facilitate seamless collaboration between technical and business teams, accelerate development, and maximize team interaction.

According to Atlassian, organizations that have piloted the System of Work model reported several key benefits in surveys:

  • 86% experienced a reduction in silos

  • 87% saw improved transparency in workflows

  • 88% saved 5 hours of time due to fewer meetings

  • 85% automation rate in handling support requests

  • 23% of support requests fully resolved through automation

  • 96% faster handling of support requests

At the Team 24 event in Barcelona, Atlassian introduced new features designed to improve team collaboration and efficiency. Here, we introduce the three most important innovations and what they mean for your business.

1. Improved customer service with Jira Service Management

One of the most significant updates is the enhanced Jira Service Management (JSM), whose multilingual virtual agents now support conversations across multiple channels.

Previously available only in Slack, the virtual service agent can now also be used in Jira Service Management’s portal, Microsoft Teams, and as a widget embedded on company websites or intranet.

Additionally, JSM’s configuration management (CMDB) capabilities have been expanded with a new Data Manager feature. This allows for easy importing of data from various sources into the CMDB, cleaning and refining that data, and combining data from different sources. This ensures data accuracy and currency, enabling a more efficient and unified service management experience for different departments, such as IT, HR, and finance.

2. Rovo: Meet your new AI team member

In April 2024, Atlassian introduced its AI-powered collaboration tool, Rovo, initially available in a closed pilot version. Now, it’s open to all users, bringing the benefits of AI to teams on a wider scale.

Rovo integrates with popular tools like SharePoint, DocuSign, and Confluence, quickly finding relevant information and providing AI-supported answers. This allows teams to access necessary data without switching between tools, saving time and improving efficiency.

Rovo can also support new team members by answering questions about people, teams, and available resources, and by helping with tasks such as creating spreadsheets, summaries, and reports based on existing data.

In the near future, Rovo will feature ready-made integrations with up to 50 different systems. It respects source system permissions, ensuring that users only access data and documents they have permission to view.

Three Things to Keep in Mind When Using Rovo:

  • The quality of data directly affects the quality of AI-generated responses. Organizing and structuring content in a clear way is more important than ever.

  • Good prompts are crucial when working with AI systems, as they directly influence the accuracy and usefulness of responses. When using Rovo, prompts should be clear, precise, and provide enough context for the AI to perform the task correctly. If you’re unsure what information Rovo needs to complete a task, you can ask the AI directly. For complex tasks, break down the prompts into smaller parts and guide Rovo step by step.

  • Set measurable goals and evaluate results regularly. Continuously review processes to optimize outcomes and ensure users are trained to use the tool effectively.

3. AI Enhancements for Developers

Atlassian’s AI innovations also support software development. New AI-powered agents aim to boost productivity through automation and AI-driven processes. Key new features include:

  • Autodev Agent integrated with Jira, analyzes Jira tasks and creates code changes based on their content.

  • Autoreview Agent, performs automatic code reviews and suggests changes that improve code quality

  • Atlassian Rovo for GitHub Copilot: Developers can use Rovo directly in GitHub to get instant answers from sources like Jira tasks or Confluence pages. Additionally, Rovo can suggest code, streamlining the development process by integrating necessary information and code suggestions directly into the development environment.

All these functions leverage Rovo, which is based on Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph data model. Teamwork Graph collects data from Atlassian tools and other connected applications, providing a holistic view of the company’s teams, goals, and workflows.
